Change to Ride Group Management

HWP Unit 2 barrel 481

You're probably all familiar with the routine at the start of the rides where one person (The Ride Leader) pretty much attempts to do everything. This just doesn't work too well so from Sunday 15th onwards we'll be changing to the following procedure:

  • Everyone arrive before 8am - there have been far too many arriving late for briefings
  • Ride Leader introduces themselves and calls for any new Riders to make themselves known. (At this point a "Leader" should introduce themselves to the "Newbie" and run through the process as above.
  • The designated Ride Leader then runs through the course route, known hazards and then determines how many groups there will be - i.e. 4,5 or 6.
  • Ride Leader then asks all to split themselves into their chosen group and position themselves in that area of the Automat forecourt  - Group one at the Northernmost end back to the last group at the southern end.
  • Ride Leader then appoints a Bunch Leader for each Bunch. That Bunch Leader will be one of the Leadership Group. The Ride Leaders role is then completed for the day.
  • Each Bunch Leader will appoint a 2IC (also one of the Leadership Group). The Bunch Leader will then establish and communicate to their bunch how the ride is to unfold - such as intensity, turn around points, establish who is turning back early etc. and then set off with at least a one minute gap.
  • During the ride, either the Leader or 2IC should be at front or back checking on the state of the bunch riding technique, individuals and general wellbeing of the bunch ensuring that everyone is riding safely, keeping together and that all make it home safely.
  • After returning, each Bunch Leader should advise the Ride Leader by e-mail of anything that should be brought to the attention of the OTB in general that may be positive, negative or just entertaining. These will be forwarded to our new "Reporter" who may communicate a Ride Report to us all.
