Pak’nSave PNP Summer Road Series Event 2: Ngawi Classic New News Item

event 2 bit of the team

Great weather for Event 2 of the Pak'nSave PNP Summer Road Series, the ‘Epic’ Martinborough-Ngawi Classic.  A brilliant OTB turnout had the OTB Racing Team make up 25 of the 125 strong field and recording a great set of results.  In a Team event where gender, age and distance diversity count OTB are definitely a serious contributor causing significant amounts of recruiting and reorganization amongst the other established racing teams.

With the 10 top individual results counting towards team points, OTB recorded 7 category 1st places and used 3 of our seven 2nd category places to add 220 points to the OTB team total.  An impressive result.

The Medio Fondo 65km Event attracted 50 high calibre riders with a good mix of genders and ages ranging from 15 to 60 plus. After a brisk rollout Ric Van Weede Diesel attacked, was joined by Tony Gesto and 5K’s later Tom Finlay (GP Meo) bridged across to create a trio that stayed together most of race. Any later attacks were neutralized and the remnanents of the bunch (with OTB well represented) rolled in for a nice bunch sprint – great fun, some cool action and plenty of top level riding by all.

75 keen riders, lined up for the 122km Grand Fondo event. The action started within 10km of the start with Antony Nalder (GP Meo) launching from the bunch not to be seen for the next 100km.  The front bunch exploded on the climb with 10 riders making the top in the front bunch – they eventually caught Antony with 15km to go with attacks happening immediately Rowlands took the win followed by McGrath and remarkably Anthony taking 3rd.

A special mention to the OTB women riders who are definitely the teams “not so secret” ingredient -  they performed exceptionally well across the board up against some top flight competition including multiple Commonwealth Games athlete and Specialized Women Racing team member Kate McIlroy, who took line honours in the women’s open.

The Teams competition had a bit of shake up with Bayleys Team Racing, having recruited heavily, taking the overall lead with a total of 446 points. Onslow Tarbabies were pushed to second place with 381 points, followed by Meo GP on 343 and Rivet Racing on 151.
