Many of you know our Andrew Ellison. For those that don't he is the one that sacrifices his own Sunday ride aspirations and steps up to take the development squad. He is also the one that has ridden more times around Taupo than anyone can recall. Once having completed an epic 8 times around that required his head to be strapped to a broomstick to complete the final circuits.
Andy doesn't do things ordinarily either. Last year, not settling for the conventional bicycle, he thought it would be a laugh to ride his renovated rickshaw (actually a Trishaw) complete with caboose, around the lake. Not one to waste his efforts, he set out on a fund raising effort for Heart Kids and raised a huge amount.
This year he is setting the bar higher. Andy is again riding his rickshaw but will be setting a World record for laps ridden around a velodrome over 24 hours on the Tuesday before we all ride one lap around - he will then ride around on Saturday assisting Development riders to get around in under 6 1/2 hours.
This doesn't come easily for Andy either. He rides in constant pain having considerable nerve damage in his back that severely restricts the power output on one side. You'll never hear him complain though. He always has a smile on his dial and ready with a joke to brighten up your day.
So all this effort, energy and sacrifice is not being wasted. Andy is again riding for Heart Kids in his record attempt which is where we come in. He wants as many people as possible to donate $2.50 but share the word around all of their contacts to do the same. I think we can do better than that and I would ask that we all pitch in to donate to his effort and challenge others to do the same - he certainly deserves it and a worthy cause will benefit as a result. Below is the link to his fundraising page. Please support Andy and spread the word.
Thanks in anticipation of your support and for spreading the word.
